Those shiny sparkly pebbles
My whole life I've already been fascinated by everything that's shiny and sparkly. The stars, pretty lights, pebbles, fireworks, and everything else that sparkles have always cought my eyes. All those objects work like some kind of magnet to me and I just have to keep looking at them. It's like I can totally disappear into my own safe world.
Specially when I was little all those sparklemagnets had an even stronger effect on me. Every day I just went exploring and searching for new sparkly things which I could take home with me. And at home I was looking at them for hours and hours like nothing else excisted anymore.
When I was around seven years old we lived in a rowhouse in some residential neighbourhood. Not far from where we lived there was a house with a driveway full of incredibly beautiful sparkly
white pebbles. Every day I walked over to that house to just look at those wonderful shiny pebbles. I was totally fascinated by all those sparkles that just touched my eyes in such a marvelous way. I was always wondering why those pebbles were there. The people who lived in that house obviously didn't care that much about the pebbles because I never saw them looking at them and they just parked their car on top of them. "How can you park your car on something that beautiful?" I was wondering to myself. "Maybe the pebbles were already here before they moved in. Maybe they didn't even like the pebbles at all and that's why they parked their car on top of them. That was probably it. And then they probably won't mind if I take some of the pebbles with me".
So the next day I went to that house again with my tiny plastic toy bucket. I was incredibly enthusiastic. Finally I could get some of those pebbles home with me and then I didn't have to come all the way to this house to look at them. I wad incredibly happy, those pebbles gave me such a
wonderful feeling. I started to run faster and faster. In the distance I could already see all the sparklings coming my way. The sun was shining so all those pebbles together formed such an amazing sparkleshow. And there I was, with my bucket. Standing in front of all those pebbles. Ready to fill up my whole bucket with them. It was just like they were all screaming together:
"Take us with you Remrov, save us from that heavy car. We want to be with
someone who admires us".
I sat down on my knees. Suddenly I had some doubts. "What if those people don't want me to take the pebbles?" I looked up to the kitchenwindow but I didn't see anybody. "Of course they want me to
take the pebbles, otherwise they wouldn't park their car on top of them'.
So I started scooping the pebbles in my bucket. First a tiny hand full of them, then the second. But soon I was scooping with both of my hands together until my bucket was almost full. "Another hand
full of pebbles and then I'm done" I thought to myself. But just when I wanted to dig my tiny hand into the layer of pebbles the front door of the house suddenly opened and a lady walked out. She had an extremely angry expression on her face. I quickly stood up with trembling knees.
"What do you think you're doing?" Shouted the lady.
"I....I just wanted some of these pebbles....", I stumbled.
"I just like them so much" I said.
"Are you insane?"
I was just looking down at the beautiful pebbles. I didn't know what to say anymore.
"Empty that bucket. Right now!" The lady shouted.
I just kept looking down quietly. I didn't want to throw the pebbles back on the driveway. I really wanted to take them home with me. Then I looked at the lady and said:
"Can I just have a few....."
"Right now. Throw those pebbles back!"
Then I looked back at my bucket and the beautiful pebbles in it. Slowly I turned the bucket upsidedown and I saw all my little sparkly friends fall back on the driveway. There were only a few
"Now of course I can just pretend that my bucket is empty" I thought to myself. "She probably won't notice".
For a moment I was incredibly happy again. "A few beautiful pebbles for myself after all".
"The whole bucket empty...Right now!" Shouted the lady again.
Disappointed, I emptied the bucket and saw all my sparkling friends lying there again on the driveway. I thought about the car that would be parked on it later again.
"Good!" Said the lady. Then she turned around and went back inside.
I just kept standing there for a while looking at the pebbles and thought to myself:
"Maybe I can quickly get a few pebbles now". But then I saw the lady with an angry face appear behind the kitchenwindow.
"Just leave it" I thought to myself and decided to give it up. Disappointed, I walked back home
with an empty bucket.
